Role: Technical Advisor to the Facilitator

Context

The Inter-Burundian Dialogue was established to address political, governance and security tensions in Burundi through dialogue, mediation and engagement with political and societal stakeholders.

Technical Mandate

Provided technical advisory support to the facilitation process, with a focus on conflict analysis, dialogue, mediation, stakeholder engagement, negotiation and peacebuilding.

African Union Panel of Eminent African Personalities

Role: Technical / Advisory Support — Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation (KNDR)
Context

Following the post-election crisis in Kenya after the disputed 2007 General Election, the African Union-supported mediation process brought political actors together under the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation framework.

The mediation was led by the Panel of Eminent African Personalities, chaired by the late Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, with the late Former President Benjamin Mkapa and Graça Machel among the senior African figures involved in the process.

Technical Mandate

Supported dialogue, mediation, coordination and stakeholder engagement within the national reconciliation process, including work connected to Agenda 2.

  • Supported structured dialogue and stakeholder engagement within the KNDR framework.

Role: Inter-communal Peace Initiatives Coordinator — National Three-year appointment

Context

The assignment followed the 2007–2008 post-election crisis, which generated extensive displacement, loss of life, destruction of livelihoods and severe disruption of inter-community relations.

Technical Mandate

To support national peacebuilding, reconciliation, community stabilization, disarmament, conflict transformation and restoration of relationships in conflict-affected communities.

  • Designed and facilitated structured community dialogue and reconciliation initiatives.

Context

The National Steering Committee formed part of Kenya’s national peacebuilding and conflict-management architecture, linking government structures, peace committees, communities and other peace actors.

Technical Mandate

To contribute technical advice and coordination on peacebuilding, conflict management, civic education, preventive action, community peace structures and conflict-sensitive planning.
