(Dialogue, Reconciliation, Disarmament and Transformation)
I was appointed on a 3 years contract as Inter-communal Peace Initiatives Co-rdinator, National.
Statement of the problem
After the 2007general election, the violence led to death of over 1,333, over 663,921 were displaced many people were left destitute, without food, shelter, clothing, medicine etc.
The main duties and objectives of my services was to:-
- To restore peace, security and harmony among the different committees affected by conflict.
- To provide shelter for victims of post-election violence and promote peace and reconciliation.
- To promote peace, co-existence and tolerance amongst communities.
- To promote understanding and cohesion amongst communities.
- To repair, restore and strengthen relationships amongst communities
- To consolidate peace so far achieved.
Through the peace initiatives I organized and conducted by calling and mobilized all groups in repentance and forgiveness meetings and use of other methods countrywide, I used my convincing interventions strategies, logistics and technical skills, many people turned up to repent and surrendered things they looted during post-election violence and weapons used. This was the biggest sign ever that they opted for a national healing. It brought co-existence amongst the communities.
Surrendered things were millions of crude weapons, all kinds of items looted and ammunitions.

Through my peacebuilding, mediation, and community transformation initiatives, my duties and service objectives directly supported national stabilization and social cohesion efforts in the following ways:
1. Dialogue Facilitation & Community Mediation
- Designed and facilitated structured community dialogues in conflict-affected regions.
- Bridged communication gaps between local communities, youth groups, women leaders, and security stakeholders.
- Helped reduce tensions through inclusive engagement frameworks aligned with national reconciliation strategies.
Impact: Strengthened grassroots trust-building mechanisms that complemented government-led reconciliation processes.
2. Reconciliation & Social Cohesion Programming
- Led trauma-informed reconciliation forums addressing post-conflict grievances.
- Promoted restorative justice principles and peaceful coexistence models.
- Integrated women and youth into peace platforms to enhance inclusive national unity
Impact: Contributed to rebuilding fractured relationships and advancing sustainable peace at community levels.
3. Disarmament & Behavioral Transformation
- Conducted civic education and peace awareness campaigns targeting at-risk youth and former militia actors.
- Promoted mindset transformation from violence to productive livelihoods and leadership.
- Encouraged voluntary disarmament through trust-building and empowerment approaches.
Impact: Supported national disarmament objectives by reducing vulnerability to radicalization and inter-communal violence.
4. Capacity Building & Preventive Peacebuilding
- Trained local leaders, peace ambassadors, and community influencers on conflict prevention frameworks.
- Strengthened early warning and local response mechanisms.
- Enhanced resilience through skills development and socio-economic empowerment programs.
Impact: Reinforced preventive structures aligned with Kenya’s national peace architecture.
5. Policy & Strategic Advisory Alignment
- Ensured grassroots initiatives aligned with government peacebuilding frameworks and development agendas.
- Offered advisory insights from field experience to inform practical, community-centered approaches.
Impact: Bridged policy implementation gaps between national directives and local realities.
