LIST OF MY SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS ASSIGNMENTS/WORK

After successful completed various courses on Social Development work, I have been given job opportunities in various capacities on matters of peacebuilding and conflicts resolution both local and international in Africa.

1.Kenya African Democratic Development Union (KADDU)

(Civic Education and Transformation)

First assignment: I got job opportunity in the Union of Political Parties in Kenya (Kenya African Democratic Development Union) as co-ordinator officer, which I supervised staff in the field, led mobilization and empowering citizens for political participation and integration, by organizing campaign seminars, conferences and rallies to sensitize the political leaders the need for open minded, nationalistic and committed to the democratization process which is a responsibility and obligation and need to promote a sustainable nationhood; by carrying out civic education campaign programmes to avert the potential danger of inter-ethnic animosity as a consequence of differentials in access to national resources, by coming up with mechanisms to address the issues of inter-ethnic harmony and peaceful co-exist amongst Kenya ‘plural ethnic society’

2. Office of the President Kenya

(Dialogue, Reconciliation, Disarmament and Transformation)

I was appointed on a 3 years contract as Inter-communal Peace Initiatives Co-rdinator, National.

Statement of the problem

After the 2007general election, the violence led to death of over 1,333, over 663,921 were displaced many people were left destitute, without food, shelter, clothing, medicine etc.

The main duties and objectives of my services was to:-

  • To restore peace, security and harmony among the different committees affected by conflict.
  • To provide shelter for victims of post-election violence and promote peace and reconciliation.
  • To promote peace, co-existence and tolerance amongst communities.
  • To promote understanding and cohesion amongst communities.
  • To repair, restore and strengthen relationships amongst communities
  • To consolidate peace so far achieved.

 

Through the peace initiatives I organized and conducted by calling and mobilized all groups in repentance and forgiveness meetings and use of other methods countrywide, I used my convincing interventions strategies, logistics and technical skills, many people turned up to repent and surrendered things they looted during post-election violence and weapons used. This was the biggest sign ever that they opted for a national healing. It brought co-existence amongst the communities.

Surrendered things were millions of crude weapons, all kinds of items looted and ammunitions.

3. Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation

(By AU Mediators)

I was appointed by the African Union’s (AU) Panel of Eminent African Personalities

Following the political violence that engulfed Kenya after the disputed December 2007 General Election, international mediation by the African Union’s (AU) Panel of Eminent African Personalities, comprising

  • Late Former UN Secretary General Koffi Annan – Chair
  • Late Former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mkapa
  • Graca Machel

brought the two parties the Government – Party of National Unity (PNU) and the Opposition – Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) into the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation (KNDR) forum for Dialogue and Mediation. The overall goal of the KNDR process was to achieve sustainable peace, stability and justice in Kenya through the rule of law and respect for human rights.

My appointment was due to my previous successful experience/work of uniting different communities and political leaders in Kenya, that I was familiar with the causes of the conflicts in Kenya. My support in consultation and input identified long-term standing issues that had caused the crisis that caused high number of people killed and displaced from their homes. The parties agreed to a four point agendas.

My Role on Agenda 2 was: Immediate Measures to Address Humanitarian Crisis, and Promote Healing and Reconciliation. (refer attached DVD Video and booklets)

  • Helped identify what was required to sustain progress and move the country towards a peaceful, secure and prosperous future.

After I carried out my assignments very successful and gained good experience and knowledge of the status of conflicts in the country and Great horn of Africa, this led to be appointed to national and international peace committees, commissions and to East Africa Community conferences for my contributions and consultations on matters of Peace and Security

My successful contributions and duties in this committee were as follows:-

  • Advised government on policy and legislative matters of peace and security, to promote values that enhance nationhood.
  • Developed peace building and conflict management guild lines that promoted sustainable conflict sensitive planning implementation.
  • Promoted peaceful resolution of conflicts and reconciliation regional and international instruments relating to peace and security.
  • I Initiated and oversee national level dialogue and promoted the proactive prevention of conflicts in Kenya.
  • Provided linkages with District Peace Committees as well peace networks and regional organizations.
  • Supported initiatives for the eradication illicit firearms safety and security (community policing) in the country.
  • I Prepared and mobilized communities for post-conflict interventions.

My recommendations and consultations on the above assignment contributed in the formation of National Policy on Peace Building and Conflict Management that guided government to adopt strategies that helped to mitigate conflicts in the country and cross border conflicts.

 

4. I was appointed by: National Steering Committee on Peace Building and Conflict Management (Kenya)

5. Nominated as Kenyan Representative to:-

East African Community

Peace and Security Conferences (Kampala – Uganda, Arusha – Tanzania)

(Coordination, Consultancy and Transformation) 

My successful contributions and consultations in the conferences’ objectives were as follows:-

  • Shared and popularized the EAC peace and security framework.
  • identified potential security challenges facing the various integration aspects.
  • Shared perspectives on modalities for deeper engagements of citizenry in regional security.
  • Identified institutional and legal obstacles of cooperation in peace and security sector and made appropriate recommendations.
  • Established the symbiotic relationship between security and governance, natural resources management and economic development.
  • Identified areas of cooperation that will enhance complementarily among the various security providers at EAC level as with other sub-regional organizations
  • Identified and elaborated areas of partnership
  • Made proposals for collective and concerted approaches towards emerging security challenges that include globalization climate change, geospatial security and cyber security among others.
  • Strengthened the EAC capacity to co-ordinate among the EAC organs and committees activities towards controlling proliferation of Small arms within the region.

6. I was appointed by: National Cohesion and Integration Commission (Kenya) to contribute on act 2010-2019 Strategic Plan

(Consultancy, Transformation, advisor and Coordination)

My contributions achievements in this commission; I investigated incidents and threats to Peace and Security and advised the Commission on post conflict early recovery, and developed conflict prevention strategies and structure that will address root causes of internal and cross border conflicts.

7. Burundi Peace Process (Inter Burundian Dialogue)

Advisor/Consultancy, Mediation, Dialogue and Transformation)

I was appointed as one of the advisors on Inter-Burundian Dialogue in which my input and consultations contributed the Burundi Peace Process to succeed by assisting the Facilitator Former Late President  Benjamin  Mkapa confer with all stakeholders in and outside Burundi and also with international actors, consult with political stakeholders on Burundi Peace Process, by contribution of my interventions strategies, skills and experience, they were successful brought on board, that laid a firm foundation for the peace process to succeed.

I contributed on a roadmap for the (Burundi Dialogue Process) which was developed, and continued undertaking regular consultations during the implementation, that developed consultative relationship with all stakeholders helpful to the healing process and remained seized of the commitment to a political process for sustainable peace and stability restored in Burundi.
